“Consider an upgrade at this great hotel” J.D Lexington from Boston area recommends this hotel ”Spent the New Years' weekend at L'Hotel du Vieux-Quebec, and definitely concur with other posts: It can't be beat for cozy, affordable lodging in the old city. I'm not sure if this hotel is family-run, but it sure feels like it is, with warm, friendly staff and a level of attention to detail too rarely seen. One suggestion, especially for a couple staying the weekend, it to consider a "superior" king room. A bit more expensive, but the superior rooms are unusually nice for a three-star, with a small, fireplace-warmed sitting area. And parking at the lot across the street is included seven days a week with this category of rooms; with others it's only included on weekdays. “
“Fantastic” Andrea from Ottawa, Canada recommends this hotel “Great place - was recommended by a friend and did not disappoint. The service was great - staff was very friendly and helpful. Parking was just across the street. Breakfast was hung at your door every morning and was delicious - though I must admit that if we had stayed more than a couple of nights, the pastries, yogurt and fruit may have been a bit too repetitive. They also had a fairly large repertoire of DVDs, which you could borrow without any added fees. The best part, however, was the location! Absolutely perfect, in the heart of Old Québec City - a few steps away from the Château Frontenac and the boardwalk and in the middle of the old shopping district. All in all, fantastic find - will definitely return.”
“Great Location, Wonderful Hotel!” A traveler from Ottawa, Canada recommends this hotel “This hotel was great! The location was perfect and within walking distance of many of the local attractions. The rooms were clean and very comfortable and the staff was just wonderful! Every morning we were greeted with a picnic basket hung on our door that had juice, pastries, fruit and yogurt. One night after a very cold walk back to the hotel the woman at the front desk offered us a hot chocolate and a friendly smile. We 'rented' a DVD (which was complimentary) and she made us some popcorn to take back to our room. Overall, we truly enjoyed this hotel and would stay here again in a heartbeat.”
Great Location, Wonderful Staff, Clean” A traveler from Ottawa, Canada recommends this hotel “My fiancé and I stayed at Hotel Du Vieux Quebec for 3 nights in December. Although we had to wait a little longer for our room (which was not a problem as they stored our bags for us and we got to tour the area) we were pleasantly surprised to receive a bottle of champagne as a complementary gift. We chose to stay in the Quebec room. Wow. A beautiful cozy set up, equipped with a fire place and amazing Jacuzzi tub as well as a heaven made bed. We started our morning off with a perfect size continental breakfast, croissants, pastries, fruit, yogurt, and juice delivered right to our door in an adorable basket. We didn't have to worry about rushing around in the morning and then heading out to breakfast, it was a great way to start our day. After long walks touring old Quebec, we would come back to a very, very clean room, hop into the tub and warm up before dinner. The front desk staff had tons of great suggestions for restaurants, tours, places to visit, and must see attractions. Any questions we had they would have a personalized, honest answer. We chose to eat at the Italian eatery Portofino. Delicious. Then we also tried the Entrecote Saint-Jean steak. So good. I should also mention the location could not be better. A 5 min walk to the farthest attraction an everything else was steps away. The staffs suggestions never disappointed. I will definitely return to Hotel du Vieux Quebec and recommend it for all who travel to Quebec City. “
“Great little hotel, in a great area” A traveler from Montreal, Canada recommends this hotel “Can't say anything bad about this hotel. Stayed in a number of hotels in Quebec City and for the location and price this was our favorite. Rooms were clean and staff very friendly. Right in the heart of shopping and restaurants. Will for sure stay there again.”
“Can't ask for more” A traveler from Redondo Beach, California recommends this hotel. After 5 nights here we were sad to have to leave. While we can probably afford the big chain hotels, we tend to choose these smaller boutique hotels for the personal service they tend to offer. L'Hotel du Vieux Quebec was no exception. The front desk staff were very accommodating, even booking a tour for us at 1 AM for the next day. Breakfast being delivered was a time saver and money saver compared to having to eat at a restaurant, and the large size rooms made staying in quite pleasant. The wife hoarded the maple butter, and neither of us liked the bran muffins so much but the croissants were great--especially the ham and cheese ones we got one morning. We did eat at the attached restaurant for a late lunch, and had good service and a good meal. The bathroom was ample size and the tub was huge. I'm 6-4 and took a bath the first night after the rigors of travel. I fit in the tub quite well, which is not always the case I can tell you. Way better than the showers in France with the lame half a door set-up and usually no tub. Big bed and a decent size flat screen TV as well. This was my first experience with the room key that you just wave at the lock instead of inserting, and it was so enlightened that I am certain it will be everywhere soon but it was neat that it was actually already in use at this little hotel. On the coffee, it was good to have in the room, but if you want it stronger just double up on the coffee filter packs and you'll be good to go. I tried to imagine staying at the Frontenac, which had a huge, busy lobby teeming with tourists (like us). All the lobby seating was usually occupied and there seemed to be little chance for a truly personalized experience. On the other hand, the lounge in L'Hotel was ample and always offered seating and solitude. And if I forgot something in my room, up one flight of stairs above the front desk and I was back at my room without a lengthy wait for an elevator. And the front desk recognized me and my lame French. It was more like staying at a friend's place to the point you forget you are paying to be there. I can't recommend it enough, especially the location. Yes, it is uphill to most of the major points of interest, but guess what, it is downhill coming back!
“Enjoyed the hotel, location, and staff!” A traveler from Rochester, New York recommends this hotel. My family (2 adults, 2 teens) spent 4 nights at this hotel and enjoyed it immensely. The staff was the friendliest I have ever encountered. There was even a free 1.5 hour walking tour. At night, a pianist played beautiful music in the lounge while we checked our email on free Wi-Fi and read. The rooms were clean, bathrooms spotless (but tiny). Sheets and pillows were very luxurious. I loved the location and we walked everywhere. The breakfast was in a wicker basket daily and included croissants, muffins, jams and fruits. Got a little boring by the 4th day but was still nice and free!! There is a coffee machine in the room which makes typically bad coffee, but there is a good coffee machine in the lobby for only about $1 per cup. All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel
“Excellent hotel with a homey atmosphere” A traveler from Geneva, Switzerland recommends this hotel. We stayed for two nights in the deluxe room. The hotel website claims for it to be arranged like a 4-star hotel room, and indeed we were more pleased with the room that we had been with other 4-star hotel rooms in Canada the same week.
“Classy Gem” A traveler from Bennington,Vermont recommends this hotel. This is a classic boutique hotel in the heart of the old city, just minutes from the Hotel de Room Tip: We had the room on the second floor directly above the front entrance and I think it was the best room in the hotel. Great view of the street!
“Probably my best-ever hotel stay.” Grace from Toronto recommends this hotel From the moment we walked through the door to the moment we ended our stay, the hotel staff was friendly, hospitable and dedicated to making our visit a positive one. The hotel itself is clean and cozy, and it's conveniently located in Old Quebec among great restaurants and bakeries. The common room is very homey, furnished with comfortable seating, board games and a pianist in the afternoons. Complimentary breakfast was included - each morning we woke to a basket of really delicious pastries, yogurt, fruit, orange juice and milk and cream for coffee (there was a coffee maker in the room with good coffee). On our last day, it was pouring rain and wind was strong. After we checked out, we had time to kill. The hotel staff stored our luggage for us, and then one staff member provided us with ponchos for the rain, advising that with the heavy wind, umbrellas would be useless. She was right, and I'm grateful to her for helping me to stay dry. She went the extra mile, and continued the great customer service even after the bill was settled. I wish all hotel stays could be so pleasant. I would definitely return to Hotel du Vieux-Quebec on a future trip, and I will be more likely to return to Quebec City sooner rather than later because of this great experience.
“What a wonderful hotel…They always had a smile and a “bonjour!” A traveler from Middletown, N.Y. recommends this hotel I had a lot of questions to begin with and they always went out of their way to help us. From directions around town or to suggest some fun things to do... And to recommend some restaurants.... We had a real treat every morning when our wicker basket of breakfast was put on the outside of our door! We had different croissants every morning, bottle of juice, yogurt, little jars of jam, piece of different fruit every day and coffee and teapot in our room to fix coffee and tea. My husband gets up early so he would just walk up the street to the Coffee Depot and buy us our tea and coffee when they opened at 630 am. The hotel had a big lounge with 2 computers. Also, there were 2 sofas; fireplace and a piano One guest did play one night. Also, they had a library of hundreds of DVDS and books plus board games and chess board. Their beds were VERY comfortable and we slept soundly. You will definitely like its location as you are situated in the heart of the walled city. You park your car and you are able to walk everywhere!! Room Tip: We wanted plenty of room so we opted for a room with 2 queen beds and there were 2 TV's. We had our 12 yr old granddaughter with us.
“Extremely welcoming!” Steven from Sterling, Virginia recommends this hotel After a long, three hour drive from Montreal to Quebec City, we were tired, and it was cold and icy. Right when we walked through the front door and were greeted, we felt at home. All the staff were very friendly, and the public space was very relaxing. Once we found our room, it was very nice! Modern, newly remodeled bathroom, a nice sitting area, really perfect for a couple nights in Vieux Quebec. The best part, however (you knew it was coming), was the breakfast basket that was delivered to our room every morning! Fresh baked pastries from the bakery up the street, juice and yogurt/fruit, and other things... YUM! It was a great way to start the day, and something that we ended up really looking forward to every morning. ("What pastries did we get today?!")
“A hotel you own in your heart.” A traveler from Ottawa, Canada recommends this hotel “Excellent Service at the reception. Knowledgeable and helpful. Provided all the "fun" details about the services of the hotel. They offer free DVD movies from a massive repertoire.....found myself wanting to come back to my room and watch movies. BUT OH.....let me not forget about the beautiful greeting when i opened my door every morning....i was greeted by a basket of fresh fruit, Fresh croissants, and juice and yogurt and little fresh creamers and milkettes for my in room coffee. While I travelled alone...i did get into the private living room where i had two computer stations available for me free of charge....even though wireless is free and very reliable. There was also a great selection of books to read in this warm and comforting living room. This made my business....a world of pleasure! Thank you for the smiles, for the comfortable stay....and for making my first trip to Quebec City a beautiful one.... You have set the bar high..... You are a true reflection of what customer service is all about....it's all about the small details!
“Very nice hotel in a great location” A traveller from Toronto, Ontario recommends this hotel “We stayed at l'Hotel de Vieux Quebec for 3 nights in the standard queen room. The room was small, but smartly designed and very clean. I was surprised, at first, to discover that the sink was in the room, just outside the bathroom, but it posed no problems and turned out to be kind of convenient. The bed was comfortable, but you may want to bring along a soft pillow, if that's your preference -- I found the supplied pillows were much firmer than I like and my neck was a little sore the next day. The front desk staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. There was always someone there so we never had to hunt anyone down to ask a question. The lounge was lovely and well stocked with games, books, and dvd's, as well as two computers and a printer, and the free WiFi throughout the hotel was very convenient. L'Hotel de Vieux Quebec is centrally located in the old town. It took about six leisurely minutes to walk to the Chateau Frontenac and about the same amount of time to walk in the opposite direction towards the wall dividing the new and old town. Tons of quaint restaurants, loads of great shopping, and virtually everyone working in the area speaks English. We did more than our share of sightseeing -- take a carriage ride but avoid the 3D Experience off the Rue de Tresor -- the show hasn't been updated since the 80's and was a waste of time and money. All in all, it was a lovely trip and l'Hotel de Vieux Quebec, especially, was a gem.”
“One of our favorite rooms ever!” A traveler from Santa Rosa, California, recommends this hotel “We stayed two nights at this hotel in Old Quebec and loved it. Check in was quick and efficient, our room (#408) was a King, nice bathroom with great counter space, terrific shower, large flat screen TV and DVD player and a coffee pot. As stated on other reviews, a basket is hung outside your door each AM with croissants, juice, butters, jams and fruit. It was so wonderful to have breakfast in our room whenever we wanted. The location is excellent, near everything in Old Quebec. There is also a lovely lounge, with public computer use available and DVD's to rent. I believe the parking is $15-$20 per night. Internet use is free. Thank you to all the previous reviewers who steered us to this facility, we loved it.”
“Great Service, Great Location” A traveller from Wiscasset, ME recommends this hotel “This is probably the best hotel we've ever stayed at. The service was extremely friendly. As an example we went to get a movie from the lounge library which you check out at the desk and the lady offered to make us fresh popcorn for the movie (which incidentally was delicious) . when we were checking out the Desk man made doubly sure we had good directions so we didn't get lost. Every day you get breakfast in a little picinic basket on your door, with delicious crossant's and jams inside. The location could not be better it is literally in the middle of everything you want to do. The parking was convenient almost accross the street and the room was clean and modern. My one complaint is that the bed was a bit stiff and the fridge was less than cool. Other than that this was a fantastic hotel.” Area recommendations:
“Highly Recommend This Hotel in Quebec” Lorraine Du from CLARK, NJ recommends this hotel “Hotel Vieux Quebec- This exceeded our expectations. Centrally located in Old Quebec. Within walking distance of almost everything. Very charming, clean, quiet. If we ever come back to Quebec I would stay here again”
“Perfect location” Melinda from Decatur, GA recommends this hotel “Room was large and clean. Free breakfast was wonderful.”
“HIGHLY RECOMMENDED" A traveler from Netanya, Israel recommends this hotel “We stayed two nights here and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. A little difficult to find when you come from Montreal along the waterfront, caused mainly by one-way streets. The hotel is a gem. Not a concrete modern hotel but old world, yet modernised just enough. The reception area is small but the staff are terrific, friendly and helpful. Forget what you've heard about Quebecois and English speakers but if you know a little French, try it out. The bedrooms were modernised and large and comfortable. Although the hotel is on a busy street inside the walls, we found it quiet. Breakfast comes in a basket hanging from your doorknob and we found it quite adequate with decious real French croissants. There is a restaurant within the hotel, we did not use it, but others have rated it highly. Rue St Jean is full of other restaurants of all sizes and prices. The hotel guided us to a vegetarian restaurant on RSJ, just the other side of the gates of the city, part of a family chain that we have visited in Toronto and were later to visit in Montreal. Do take the city bus tour, the hotel can organise it for you. And with nothing much to do at night after you have eaten, the hotel has a huge collection of DVDs along with complementary popcorn, as long as the staff remember to reorder.
“Great experience” Carmela from San Jose, Costa Rica recommends this hotel “The hotel located in the center of Old Quebec and we were able to walk around to see the city with no problem. It has a nice restaurant and the box breakfast is very good.”
“In the Heart of Old Quebec” A traveller from Marlborough, MA recommends this hotel “Not a luxurious hotel but very comfortable, fabulous croissants + for breakfast, and extremely well-located. The service was excellent. The bed was comfortable and the shower/bath wonderful - both pressure and hot water. Located several blocks from the funicular in the Haute Ville but easy access to the basse-ville. Good bistro attached to hotel and others nearby. Great value for the price.” Area recommendations:
“We'll be back!” A Traveler from Ohio recommends this hotel “This is a perfectly located, delightful hotel. The staff were all very helpful, the room was large, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was wonderful - croissants and fruit delivered each morning in a picnic basket on the door. We'll look forward to returning.”
“ we would love to go back! ” Joe G Wappingers Falls, New York recommends this hotel A beautiful quaint hotel. Our fist stay not in a large chain hotel was wonderful. Right in the heart of Old Quebeck, within walking distance of everything. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Patiently spoke English as we don't speak French. The room was clean and comfortable, older styling but definately not worn. It overlooked the front street which was very pretty. The continental breakfast delivered to our room was delicious and so convenient. The lounge was very nice. A fireplace, pleanty of reading material, books, papers etc. as well as binders with lists of DVDs available for loan and an info book about the hotel which had walking tours of the city written by the owner, with lots of historical info. The only slight drawback was the parking was a little pricy and two blocks away. Though it was indoors during a few snowy days which was great. Parking in the city must be a premium because of the small streets. We'd love to go back to Hotel Du Vieux during warmer months and bring our daughters. This trip was our 25th anniversary and was very romantic, both the hotel and the city.
“ Perfect ” A traveller from Ancaster, Canada recommends this hotel Great clean and comfortable hotel in the old town. Perfectly located - everything within walking distance. Friendly, helpful staff. Lovely breakfast. We were extremely satisfied with everything.
“I can't imagine a better place to stay in Quebec City” A traveller from Massachusetts, recommends this hotel We absolutely loved our visit to Quebec City and our stay here. The location in the heart of the Old City was ideal -- we walked everywhere and left our car in the garage. I was a bit nervous about getting our baggage out and car into their garage after reading some of the online descriptions. I parked on the side street next to the hotel (since the unloading zone in front was blocked) and checked in. By the time I finished the front was free and I moved the car for an easy unload. The garage was pretty simple to find but getting a spot was problematic --- I had to go to the 9th underground level to find one! When I got back to the hotel I was surprised to find that our room had freed up while I was parking (we were there pretty early). The room was spacious, clean and pleasantly appointed. The view was nothing to write home about but we usually only use our room for sleeping or relaxing after a day of touring -- so it didn't matter. We loved the morning breakfasts hanging from our door. It was a great way to start the day! We found the hotel personnel to be friendly and always helpful. Our location was immersed in a sea of restaurants and gave a short walk to all the sights we wanted to see. We never tired of walking in streets that reminded us of our last Paris stay. If we ever find the time to come back to Quebec City we surely will want to stay here again.
“Wonderful” A traveller from Brampton, Ontario recommends this hotel The service in this hotel was fabulous. The front desk staff went above and beyond their duties to be helpful...including making popcorn for us to eat while watching one of their movies on the DVD player in our room. Another great feature of this hotel was the free walking tour of the old city. Our room was very modern, clean and facing the street for a nice view. Location, location, location...right in the center of the old city and within a short walking distance of all attractions as well as shops and restaurants. Another feature was the breakfast basket delivered to our door each morning with fresh croissants from a bakery nearby. The food in the hotel's bistro was also very good. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of this hotel and would definitely stay here again if in Quebec City.
“Great and clean hotel - located right in the Centre of Old Quebec City” Bergen Roland, a traveller from Alberta recommends this hotel Great Hotel. Very good service, clean rooms. Best of all: It is right in the centre of Old Quebec City - you don't need wheels to get around, everything is within walking distance. If you do have a car (and if it is not too big), the hotel offers a heated underground parking nearby. If in Quebec City again - we will definitely book with this hotel again.
“An excellent choice” Robert, a traveller from Ottawa, recommends this hotel The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. The location was amongst the best in the city (the only other hotel we would recommend in Quebec City would be the Chateau Frontenac, as we mentioned to the staff, but this is obviously another price point). We have alternatively stayed at the Clarendon, but the Hotel du Vieux Quebec is by far the better hotel in services and ambience. An excellent choice for the two of us and for everybody we will recommend it to.
Jean, a traveller from Knoxville, USA, recommends this hotel We were thoroughly satisfied with our choice of this hotel. The staff was welcoming and very service oriented throughout our stay...Pierrot especially...but all were charming. Everyone always had a genuine smile. There is an enclosed, beautifully decorated lounge (lacking in many hotels these days) with several seating areas. It was a lovely alternative to returning to the room if you wanted to read or play games. A selection of free DVDs for guests to take to their room is available, and they will make you fresh popcorn! There is an adjacent moderately priced restaurant where we enjoyed several meals. Overall, an excellent experience, we are so glad we stayed there. This is a "green" hotel, which added to our satisfaction. Our stay would have been perfect if more English-speaking TV channels were available.
Cheryl, a traveller from Stoughton, USA recommends this hotel From the moment we walked through the doors, the staff was extremely friendly. They gave us lots of tips about what to see, where to eat etc. And every time we returned to the hotel from one of our outings, they greeted us with a smile and asked us how our trip was going, did we need anything etc. This staff was probably one of the friendliest we have ever encountered during a hotel stay! And if that wasn't enough, the location was PERFECT!
‘’Great location, service & style” A traveller from Cheshire, UK recommends this hotel Right at the heart of Old Quebec yet so peaceful. Spotlessly clean and the staff are so friendly and helpful. Breakfast lovely too. Prices a little higher than other cities for what you get but this is Quebec so this place gives good value. Don't waste your money on the Chateau Frontenac (which imo is a bit of a monster). There is a free walking tour of the old parts (about an hour & a half) which gives a good intro. Incidentally this is the only hotel we've visited in Canada that has a secure network so you can use the internet securely as well as for free. We're so glad we chose this hotel and have no hesitation in fully recommending it.
“Well Located” A traveller from North Carolina recommends this hotel This hotel was intimate with a very nice lounge and a bustling restaurant downstairs. It is situated in the heart of old Quebec, upper town, a couple of blocks below the Chateau Frontenac. Although the area was lively our room was at the back and very quiet. Staff was bilingual and helpful. The hotel also provided a guided walking tour at no charge (other then the tip) with a very pleasant and knowledgeable guide. It’s worth the hour and a half to get your bearings and learn about the upper town (tour didn’t go to the lower town). Only small problems: at check-in our room safe did not work but was soon fixed. Our in-room refrigerator also did not work and was never fixed.
“In the heart of the action”
This hotel is on a fairly busy street in Old Quebec, yet our room - facing the street on the 3rd floor - was amazingly quiet. (It was hot so we were usually using some AC, which probably factored into the quietness.) You can walk out the door and have your choice of amazing restaurants (try the nice Moroccan one through the archway directly across the street) and all of the attractions such as tours, street performers, etc. The staff was very nice. They leave breakfast for you outside your room (in a lovely basket), and the pastries are good, but the nasty fruit cocktail is, well, nasty, and you can just skip the industrially-bland in-room coffee. Prices are a bit too high for the size of the room, but prices are all high in Old Quebec in the summer.
“Fantastic Old Quebec Hospitality” A traveller from New Hampshire recommends this hotel What a fantastic little hotel! The location, the staff, the amenities, and the fresh breakfast all exceeded my expectations! I could not wait to see what fresh pastries would find their way into our breakfast basket each morning. The staff was delightful and very helpful (especially with making arrangements for tours, cruises, etc). I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
“The best location, service, rooms” A traveller from Richmond Hill recommends this hotel You can't get any better!! This charming hotel is in the best location within the walls of Old Quebec which you should stay in. The service is genuine and extremely helpful in all areas. The rooms spacious, very clean and the breakfast included is so European style, nice touch! I can't say enough, I am very fussy and like details, this hotel is it from all angles, staff, rooms, service, and location. I truly can't wait to go back. Thank you Pierrot and Geoffrey - your service outstanding!!!
“Can't Say Enough How Great Our Stay Was” A traveller from Erin recommends this hotel We were traveling with our 2 daughters and nephew as well as our 2 dogs. What a great reception when we got to the hotel. It was right in the centre of everything, easy walking distance to all the historic sites. The gentleman at the front desk was great with our kids. They had movies the kids could borrow and watch on the VCR's in the room and when they checked them out, the man at the front desk popped up popcorn for them to take up and make the night complete. They had a great lounge with a fireplace on the main floor where you could sit and relax. The rooms were clean, a good size especially for the price which is a fraction of what other hotels near buy cost. But it had so much more charm and character. Just when we didn't think it could get any better, the next morning there were these great baskets on the front door with hot croissants, yogurt and juice. If you are going to Quebec City, book this hotel. It was quiet, the rooms were great, the service was wonderful. Can't say enough about how great out stay was here.
“Over all Nice Hotel” A traveller from Saint Joseph, Illinois recommends this hotel
This hotel has some nice touches—like a breakfast basket with fresh pastries and juice delivered to your door each morning. The location of this hotel couldn’t be much better for tourists. My husband really liked this hotel. I thought our room was small and the bathroom was smaller. (About 3x4 foot of unoccupied floor space!) I tend to like a more contemporary and open feel to a hotel, but this hotel is within the old walled portion of the city, and they aren't going for a sleek look, obviously. We did have some trouble with street noise at night, but we also stayed during the summer festival, and there were many people in the streets into the early morning hours. All in all, I would recommend this hotel.
“A Lovely Hotel in the central old town” A traveller from BC recommends this hotel Hotel du Vieux-Quebec is a very lovely hotel. Its location is very good, too. Just 10 minutes walk to almost anywhere. The front desk staff is very helpful and knowledgeable about the city for tourists. Plus, the daily continental breakfast being put in a small basket will make your day start with fresh, warm greeting. I will definitely recommend this hotel to others.
“Best Hotel ever after traveling to 30 countries” A traveller from Anchorage, Alaska recommends this hotel My wife and I just returned from HVQ after spending 4 days and nights there with her elderly parents. I have been to the best of European and US hotels - this place gets it. Great location, friendly welcome, great rooms, all the amenities down to a small light into the safe so you can see you have not left anything. We did stay in the King Superior rooms which are some of the best rooms. The basket on your door with fresh pastries and juice for breakfast and wonderful coffee was a nice touch. One night after walking too much we just wanted to stay in, so the hotel has 500 DVDs and then offered fresh popcorn. Everything to make it special. Thank you Justin - you do it right!!!!!
"Very Good Location!” A traveller from Ottawa recommends this hotel This hotel has an awesome location, 10 minute walk from the train station (although be ready for VERY STEEP climb on your way to the hotel!). 5 minute walk to the chateau and boardwalk area right in the middle of beautiful old Quebec city. Every morning you wake up with a cute little basket of croissants, pastries and jam hanging on your door! There was a DVD player in the room; you can rent DVD’s for free from the hotel. Bed was just O.K. And the walls are kinda thin... so sometimes we can hear people next to us perfectly. And cool soap and shampoo dispensers in the shower and sink, to save from using the small little bottles, very eco friendly.
“Worth shelling out the $$ for.” A traveller from Wigton, Cumbria, UK recommends this hotel Lovely little hotel! It's nicely furnished, with a decent kitchenette and lovely bathrooms. The desk and TV area are great and my party loved the breakfast picnic baskets. Delicious and good value. The location of the hotel is great and the downstairs restaurant is also worth a visit.
“Lovely hotel” A traveller from Australia recommends this hotel We had an enjoyable 2 night stay here. Staff was extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful, the location within the old town is good and our room was very nicely appointed. We were thrilled to receive our picnic baskets hanging on the door each morning - such a lovely touch! We also made use of the library and the complimentary DVD player/movies. Overall a lovely place to stay!
“I will go back!” A traveller from Milford,CT recommends this hotel I will go back to Quebec and specifically to the Hotel Du Vieux-Quebec again. A beautiful city and the accommodating staff made the trip very memorable. My daughter and I were able to walk to any location of the old town area. We really enjoyed the many historic sites and wonderful restaurants.
A traveller from London, Ontario recommends this hotel Our room was a standard Queen but was perfect for a weekend getaway. The location and staff are what make this hotel such a wonderful place. The room was small but had everything we needed. Bed was a bit firm and we were located on the street side (though on a cool April night the streets were pretty quiet) but the hotel itself is solid. We never heard any guests above us or next to us. The lounge area is an excellent place to unwind after a day of seeing the sights. Hotel is inside the fortified walls and therefore you can walk to all of the sights.
A traveller from Toronto, Ontario recommends this hotel We were two couples visiting Quebec City for the weekend and we chose this hotel from the reviews online. We had a fabulous time and it definitely surpassed our expectations. As mentioned in other reviews, the location is excellent. The rooms we had were quiet, spotlessly clean, nicely furnished and well equipped with mini fridge and safe, coffee maker (kettles for tea are available), Large Flat screen TV, DVD players , wireless internet and the usual hairdryer, desk, phone. What really made our trip was the service. The front desk was a real pleasure to speak to - very friendly and helpful. They offer little extras that make you feel appreciated. For example, when we chose a movie to watch, we were given popcorn to go with it. Coming in from a walk I was chilled from the wind and was given hot chocolate to warm up. In the evening, we were relaxing in the lounge and met the owner who gave us good restaurant suggestions and served us a glass of port.
“Best Hotel I’ve stayed in EVER!” A traveller from Ohio recommends this hotel Absolutely everything about this hotel was delightful, from the staff to the breakfasts, to the movies and popcorn! It was the warmest and friendliest establishment, with the most helpful staff I have encountered in a lifetime of avid travel. Truly charming. Delightful in EVERY way. C’est tres magnifique! Everything you need. Very friendly, helpful staff (despite having to speak English for our benefit). Room was very nice, clean and adequate. Great location in the old city! And the restaurant downstairs was awesome.
“Outstanding hotel and enviro friendly to boot” Barrie, ONTARIO This place is incredible. We stayed in a superior queen room which was completely worth the extra $10 or so. Once we got inside the room we were blown away by the large size of the room, the cleanliness and many, many upgrades. 50 inch LCD TV in the room, new fixtures, tub, tile everything was redone. We did not realize when we checked in but the hotel has won many provincial and federal awards for its environmental efforts. What hotel can you think of that buys carbon credits to offset the ones they produce? This one does. After all this I still have not mentioned the incredible in-room complimentary breakfast of fresh pastries, juices and jams from the local bakery; located right around the corner. If you stay here you will not be disappointed and if you get a chance check out the restaurant right next to the lobby.
“Amazing Customer Service” Hanover, New Hampshire We picked Hotel Vieux Quebec mainly because of its location - it’s within the walled city, just a few blocks from the Chateau Frontenac and the Musee De La Civilisation. The rooms were clean, comfortable and very spacious. That said, the real standout feature of this hotel is the customer service. Every morning, we woke up with a picnic basket of fresh croissants, maple spread and orange juice hanging from our door. In the afternoons, the hotel staff offered us hot chocolate (both dark chocolate and milk chocolate flavors) to warm us up after a morning of sightseeing. In the evenings, we took advantage of the hotel’s extensive DVD library and the hotel staff popped bowls of popcorn for us to enjoy while watching our movies.
“Festivals have drawbacks, but good restaurants don’t.” Montreal To get right to the most important part: the hotel is outstanding. Kind service, great location, nice rooms... Room decor perhaps not great, but more than adequate. Besides, the flat-panel TV more than made up for shortcomings of room decorations, if there were any. Then there are `nice touches`: free DVD rentals (wide selection of movies), breakfast croissants from a local bakery, real restaurant on premises. Unlike most hotel restaurants, this one is no joke. I recommend it highly (and it is priced decently for the area). The location is just amazing, right in the heart of this charming old city. A short walk from several major attractions. This is where the only drawback came from. If, like us, you visit during a major festival, getting to the hotel by car may be an issue (unless you know where to go). Once we got to the hotel, the staff helped us out. But getting there was a difficulty. Next time I will call ahead and ask...
“Cool” Ontario Awesome old world hotel, in old world Quebec but with all the modern conveniences. We loved the picnic breakfast. We could walk everywhere!
"Quaint and Romantic" Toronto, Ontario Located inside the old walled area of the City, this hotel is very clean, staff were extremely helpful, did everything possible to make our stay remember able. We loved getting our continental breakfast each morning in a picnic basked hung on our room door.
A little gem in the heart of Quebec Philadelphia, P.A Everyone at the hotel was extremely helpful. The main room is cozy, with Internet access, books, fireplace. The restaurant next door is delic. Great location for walking everywhere. The rooms are clean and the decor is great. Great selection of movie to watch in your room.
“Fabulous hotel in the center of all the action” Boston, MA Fantastic hotel!!! The staff was very courteous, completely bilingual and very helpful (picking restaurants, etc.). The hotel was very clean. And breakfast was great! I’m recommending this hotel to everyone.
“Great deal for old Quebec” Toronto The best part of the experience is the continental breakfast served at your room in the morning. They place it in a cute basket on your door, which gives it a nice bed and breakfast, small hotel feel.
“A great portal to Old Quebec hospitality” Moncton, New Brunswick We arrived the day before Christmas Eve, and left on Boxing Day. Everything is very smooth, relaxed yet professional. Rooms are well maintained, quiet and have extra touches that are meaningful. The breakfast outside room door in the morning is small, but adequate for those who do not want a large meal. This is a very well run operation.
“Positively Impressed” A traveller from Minnesota recommends this hotel My husband and I were attracted to this reasonably-priced, small family-owned hotel because of its small size, very natural (and not at all pretentious) green focus, and the lovely breakfast baskets that were hung on our door every morning. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and spoke excellent English, and the location was absolutely perfect for a vacationing couple (or family) - right in the heart of the Old Quebec and in walking distance to several restaurants, shops, ATM (which was right across the street), and small grocery stores with delis, where we bought many of our lunches. The room had a fridge for our leftovers. Also, it was nice not to be located right above a noisy bar. When we went on bus tours, the tour company bus picked us up right at our hotel door, for no additional cost. We would definitely stay at this hotel again! Our visit was in November (a nice time to visit), but next time we plan to come in late spring or summer.
“Fabulous!!” A traveller from Toronto, Ontario recommends this hotel This hotel has an excellent location on Saint Jean Street in Old Quebec. We were very impressed with the staff. The people who we met were very warm and accommodating. With the price of our room the hotel included breakfast, Internet, movies and popcorn. Our room was of a decent size, well lit with dimmer switches for mood lighting. It had a great stone wall, light coloured modern wood furniture, a seating area, very large flat screen TV, DVD player, Coffee maker (good coffee), fridge and safe. The bed was soft, with toss pillows, a comforter layered between two sheets, and a cozy quilt lay at the foot of the bed. The hotel has a very nice lounge with two computers. We enjoyed sharing a bottle of wine in front of the fireplace our first night. There is a decent exercise room in the basement. The hotel seems to be renovating several rooms but we were not disturbed. We highly recommend Hotel de Vieux Quebec and will stay there again if we go back to Quebec City.
“Improving the picnic basket” October 18, 2009 | Trip type: Couples My wife and I stayed for 4 nights (early October 2009): an amazing hotel in a great location: we had a very attractive, spacious corner room - really appreciated the free Wi-Fi and the refrigerator and security safe. We drove from Ohio, parked the car under the Town Hall practically across the street from the hotel and left it there until we left. Breakfast: we really enjoyed the picnic basket concept but our only suggestion regarding "improving" the service would be to let guests state, on check-in, a choice of bread or croissants (not everyone wants cinnamon or chocolate croissants for breakfast) - however, there's a great little bakery about a minute's walk from the hotel - I went there each morning for a baguette to supplement our breakfast. We've stayed at other Quebec City hotels, including the Chateau Frontenac, but the Hotel du Vieux-Quebec will be our only choice in future visits. Keating Family -
“Fantastic location and staff - stay here!” Jun 21, 2009 | Trip type: Couples Stayed 3 nights in June and cannot fault this great little hotel. Right on the main street and walking distance to everything. Room clean, comfy and quiet. Free internet access was very welcome. Was SO excited when we got our little breakfast basket each morning and nice to be able to eat breakfast whenever you feel like it. Staff most helpful and friendly with directions and tours as needed, in particular Claudie who was a delight and really made our stay in Quebec special. We also stayed one night at the Chateau Frontenac and the staff there do not compare. For value and location do not hesitate to book this hotel.
“Location, location, location!” Busterboots 13 contributions We stayed at the Hotel du Vieux Quebec for two nights. This hotel is perfectly located on one of the main touristy streets so all is close by or within walking distance. Inside it was blissfully quiet; we couldn't hear any noise from the street or other guests within the hotel.
“Great hotel, great service, wonderful weekend!” familytravelB 2 contributions Had a wonderful stay at L'Hotel du Vieux. The location, the price, and the service were simply excellent. One of the receptionists, Claudie, was always most eager to help and most helpful with various directions. Thank you so much for your help and your most genuine service!!
“Everything we wished for!” blondie014 9 contributions My husband, myself and my 13 year old son stayed at L'Hotel du Vieux June 6-8 2009. It was in an excellent location close to all of the local attractions as well as cafes and shops. The hotel was very clean and decorated tastefully. The staff were very helpful pointing out must see attractions and advising us the quickest way to see everything. The breakfast was delivered in a wicker basket in the morning which was a nice way to start the day. We would definetly stay at this hotel again!
“Wonderful Stay” Logan I recently stayed four nights at L'Hotel du Vieux Quebec and was absolutely charmed. The staff was warm and friendly and the hotel was full of character. From the hardwood floors to the small kitchenette to the location, the whole experience was wonderful. The hotel is close to all the major sites in Old Quebec and convenient to many restaurants and the shopping on Rue St Jean. The best feature, however, was the continental breakfast hung on your door every morning in a small picnic basket. The hotel was quiet and though you could get easily get lost in the hallways that just added to the charm. I will definitely stay here again if I am ever in Quebec City again.
A traveller from Oakton, VA recommends this hotel "Great Location, Service and Value"
Alex K from Edmonton recommends this hotel "Quebec’s best!" Traveller's tip on local attractions A better time to visit would have been during winter festival (Jan/Feb), or summer, although all attractions were still open, and the Christmas decorations were festive. The Harbour market, dinner at L’Astral, and the inexpensive ferry trip across the river for the view of Quebec were worthwhile visits.

A traveller from Calgary recommends this hotel "Pleasantly surprised" Traveller's tip Driving in Vieux Quebec where the hotel is located is a nightmare, particularly for those like me entering the area for the first time. When first getting to the hotel, I suggest parking the vehicle in the 10 min loading zone close by. After checking in, move the vehicle to the U/G parking lot recommended by the hotel, and leave it there for the duration of your stay. All the major tourist attractions are within walking distance.
